2011 WSS Portimao Test Wednesday Session 2 Times: Newcomer Lowes Stuns The Regulars
Parkalgar Honda rookie Sam Lowes proved the confidence which team manager Simon Buckmaster had in the youngster by topping the timesheets during the afternoon session on the first day of the official Portimao World Supersport test. Lowes just edged out David Salom, the Spaniard putting in another impressive time on the Motocard.com Kawasaki, finishing ahead of his Australian teammate Broc Parkes for the second session in a row. Hannspree Ten Kate's Fabien Foret ended the session in 4th, ahead of Chaz Davies, making his debut on the Yamaha, after the BE1 team switched from the Triumph just a few days before the test commenced.
Testing continues tomorrow.

Official FIM 2011 Provisional MotoGP Rider List - Not So Provisional At All
Below is the "provisional" MotoGP entry list issued by the FIM. Given the cost and complexity of a MotoGP entry, it should be regarded as anything but provisional, as all of the names are confirmed, and no new entries are expected, despite rumors that other manufacturers may make a surprise return.

Mark Martin to Race in All Three NASCAR Series in 2011
Filed under: Kyle Busch, Mark Martin, Chevrolet, Nationwide Series, Sprint Cup, Hendrick Motorsports, Camping World Truck Series, NASCAR
Just when we thought Mark Martin might be winding up his long and storied career as a NASCAR driver, he's decided to jump back in with both feet in 2011 by running races in all three of NASCAR's national touring series.
In his final, lame-duck year with Hendrick Motorsports in the Sprint Cup series, Martin has decided to also run selected Nationwide series and Camping World Truck series events for Turner Motorsports.
Martin will drive the No. 32 Dollar General Chevrolet in Nationwide races at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Ca., Michigan International Speedway and Kentucky Speedway, with Trent Owens serving as his crew chief, the team announced Wednesday.
Martin will also drive the No. 32 Chevy Silverado truck in NASCAR Truck series races at Michigan as well as Pocono Raceway.
"I'm excited to be running back in the Nationwide and Truck Series again," said Martin. "Everyone at Dollar General and Turner Motorsports has been great and I'm looking forward to hitting the track with them next year. Working with Turner, I get to extend my relationship with Chevrolet and continue to have Hendrick horsepower under the hood, which is really, really good."

Audi RS6 by Romeo Ferraris

The most recent tuning packages we’ve seen from Romeo Ferraris have been for some not-so-fast vehicles like the Abarth 500 and the Smart ForTwo. However, this time around, the Italian tuners have chosen the Audi RS6 to toy around with. The result of their work is a total of 720 HP and a top speed of 205 mph. Now that’s a real Audi RS model!
The tuning kit comes in two different engine upgrade stages. Stage one includes an ECU update and installation of two filters, allowing the Audi to get an extra 51hp. Not bad, but Stage two is oh-so-much better. This stage has the tuner optimizing the mapping of the two units (one per bank) and replacing the central component with high-performance metal catalysts combined with two 200-cell. The tuner can then install a new exhaust system if the customer so chooses. The result is an increase of 140 HP to 720hp (up from a standard of 580 HP). In order to manage this impressive update, the tuner is also offering a new Brembo front brake system.

Rossi Evaluating Shoulder Recovery Aboard Ducati WSBK Machine At Misano
Question marks continue to hang over the Italian Dream combination of Valentino Rossi and Ducati, as Rossi's recovery from shoulder surgery is proceeding at a much slower pace than the Italian had hoped for. Rossi had voiced these fears at the Ducati's Wrooom! launch event in Italy two weeks ago, telling the assembled press that he did not expect to be at full fitness until the end of April at the earliest.
That would be a problem for Ducati, as the 2011 season is due to get underway with the first official test of the MotoGP test of the season at Sepang next Tuesday, and the first race of the season on March 20th at Qatar. There is still a lot of work to do between Sepang and Qatar, and Ducati are eager to hear from Rossi about the changes that have been made to the Desmosedici GP11 based on his input. But with Rossi's shoulder still questionable, there are doubts as to how much feedback Rossi can provide.

BMW 3-Series M-Sport MC Edition by Arkym

Arkym has heard our cries and have brought forth yet another tuning kit for the BMW 3-series that doesn’t have us choking on last night’s dinner as did their AeroRace One. Fit for any 2010+ BMW 335is LCI, the M-Sport MC Edition package is just the right amount of sporty appeal without the head-scratching mods that appeared on that other model.
Typically when we come across a beautiful rendition of a car, we assume that the idea behind it was thought up by a man, since the auto industry is chock full of testosterone. This car, however, was the brain child of Maureen Chen, a woman who wanted to stand in front of her own car and not stand to the side of someone else’s ride in a scantily clad bikini.
Arkym’s press release sums it up the best stating: "And thus what was coincidentally manifested from this perfectly timed request was the Arkym E92 3-Series M-Sport MC Edition, 3-piece AeroSport kit for the 2010+ BMW 335is LCIs. A good relationship between individuals in the same automotive scene, man or woman, is absolutely key no matter where they come from as neighbors in our world. Given the opportunity for us at Arkym to explore the 335is lineup with Maureen Chen provided us with refreshing insight on how her personality and professionalism in wanting to be a part of her own project translates directly toward the look and feel of her car: sporty, classy, ?avant garde?, and not afraid to bite."
No exact details were given on the different components added to the BMW E92 3-Series, but we’re staying on top of this one and bringing those details as soon as we have them. Until then, check out the gallery to see what happens when a woman decides that average just isn’t enough.

Auto Club Speedway's Lone Race Reduced to 400 Miles
Filed under: Clint Bowyer, Tony Stewart, NASCAR Fans, NASCAR Tracks, NASCAR
A California diet continued at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana with the announcement Tuesday that the track's sole NASCAR Sprint Cup race in March this year has been shortened from 500 to 400 miles.
The announcement comes as the Southern California speedway begins to promote its only Sprint Cup race of 2011 after seven years of two annual races, both of which generally suffered for attendance.
The speedway's final fall event last October was shortened to 400 miles and received positive reviews, the speedway said. Tony Stewart won that race by about a half-second over Clint Bowyer as drivers used many grooves through the turns of the two-mile oval.
"We're confident the newly remileaged Auto Club 400 will continue the momentum we have been experiencing and that March's race will be the most exciting ever at Auto Club Speedway," speedway President Gillian Zucker said.
Like many facilities, Auto Club Speedway is also reaching out to fans with special ticket offers, such as a free, pre-race pit pass to any fan who purchases a $75 upper reserved seat ticket by Feb. 25.
The race will take the green flag at noon on Sunday, March 27, with FOX providing the live telecast.

Ducati Test Team Wraps Up Testing At Jerez
After three days of work at Jerez, the Ducati test team has packed up and is heading home to Bologna with a couple of disks full of data and a few ideas to help improve the Desmosedici GP11 for when the official riders start to test again in 12 days' time. Work for Vito Guareschi and Franco Battaini has focused around improving the front end feel of the GP11 - something that was the bane of the 2010 bike - and a revised electronics package, improving the traction control and anti-wheelie systems.
The team now takes the solutions found to Sepang, where Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden will be able to put them to the test at race pace. That will take place at the first official MotoGP test of 2011, from February 1st - 3rd.
Below are the official press releases from Ducati's test team:
Day 2
WORK UNDERWAY AT JEREZ FOR DUCATI MOTOGP TEST TEAM
Vittoriano Guareschi and Franco Battaini completed the second day of a three-day Ducati MotoGP testing session at Jerez de la Frontera, lapping until the track closed since weather conditions have made it pointless to ride prior to lunchtime. Guareschi completed 59 laps, while Battaini turned in 66.
