Another Moto2 Withdrawal: Holiday Gym Team Withdraws, Simeon Jobless

Ever since its introduction, the Moto2 class has been oversubscribed, with more  teams wanting places than were available on the grid. Last year, over 40 riders regularly raced in the class, and there were 40 entries for the 2011 season.

Natural attrition is starting to take its toll on the Moto2 grid, however, After the announcement that the Jack&Jones By Antonio Banderas team had withdrawn - reportedly leaving a trail of unpaid bills behind them - another team has abandoned the series. The Holiday Gym team, which had entered Belgian rider Xavier Simeon for the 2011 Moto2 season aboard a Moriwaki, has decided to pull out of racing altogether.

This time, the problem was not one of money. Luis Guerra, owner of the Holiday Gym chain of fitness and spa centers, had set up the team to back his son Yannick's racing ambitions. After a spell in World Supersport, Guerra switched to Moto2, partnering Fonsi Nieto in the Holiday Gym G22 team run by Pablo and Gelete Nieto.

Tony Kanaan Signs With DeFerran Dragon Racing for 2011 IndyCar Season

In the second major IZOD IndyCar Series team announcement in the last week, de Ferran Dragon Racing named 2004 series champ Tony Kanaan to drive its No. 2 car for the 2011 season.

Kanaan, one of the most popular drivers in the series (shown above with his three-year-old son, Leonardo), parted ways with Andretti Autosport at the end of the season when his car's primary sponsor, 7-Eleven, withdrew its funding of the car.

The new job unites Kanaan, 35, with fellow Brazilian and longtime friend, team co-owner Gil de Ferran, a two-time former CART champion and the 2003 Indy 500 winner. Legendary owner Roger Penske's son, Jay Penske, and Steve Luczo are also owners of the three-year-old team, which is still looking for its first IndyCar victory.

"We are still young and developing and Tony is a big addition,'' said de Ferran, who joined Kanaan in their native Brazil for the announcement on Monday. "I have no doubt he will bring speed and determination but he'll also help us shortcut a lot of the development process.

"This news certainly clarifies that we are serious in our intention to become a major force in series.''

HRC Press Release After Johnny Rea's Sepang MotoGP Test

Below is the press release issued by HRC after the private test of the Honda test team, where Ten Kate Honda World Superbike rider Johnny Rea was allowed to test Honda's RC212V MotoGP bike. No times were released:

HRC MOTOGP TEST AT SEPANG ENDS 2010 ON TRACK DEVELOPMENT WORK

The HRC MotoGP test team brought curtain down on the 2010 season on-track when they wrapped up the three-day test at Sepang Malaysia today. The test session was scheduled to end yesterday but was extended to include a three-hour session this morning due to time last to heavy rain yesterday afternoon.

The test team and HRC test rider Kousuke Akiyoshi were happy with the data gleaned while verifying information and technical data gathered at the last team test session, held at Valencia in early November.

The HRC test was also a happy experience for Ten Kate Honda World Superbike team rider Jonathan Rea. The Ulsterman was given the opportunity to test the RC212V as a reward for his WSB performances in 2010. Race completed the test alongside Akiyoshi running for 40 laps in fine sunny weather with temperatures close on 30 degrees for the morning session.

Ratthapark Wilairot Update: Conscious, But Not Yet Speaking

More news on the condition of Ratthapark Wilairot, who was seriously injured in a road traffic accident that killed the rider of the motorcycle the Thai Moto2 rider was a passenger on. News emanating out of Thailand, in both the Bangkok Post and the website StayOnTheBlack.com suggests that happily, Wilairot's condition is improving.

According to the reports, Wilairot is now conscious, though the Stop&Go rider is still unable to talk. Fears of brain damage appear to have been allayed, as though Wilairot is not yet capable of speaking, he has been able to communicate with the doctors by a primitive sign language, and answer some of their questions.

Wilairot usually lives in Spain, but had returned to Thailand to attend his father's funeral. Christmas Wilairot, himself a former motorcycle racer, died last week of liver cancer. The service for Ratthapark's father has been postponed, in the hope that Ratthapark will have recovered sufficiently to attend his father's funeral.

Kawasaki Releases More Information on the ZX-10R?s Technical Hold ? Sales to Resume Late January

The launch of the 2011 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R has been a rocky one for Team Green. First there was the new that the ZX-10R’s class leading power figures wouldn’t be making it to the American market, as the Japanese manufacturer was honoring new EPA noise standards, which necessitated the Kawasaki ZX-10R getting its wings clipped by 750RPM and approximately 20hp.With this sort of impediment soon to become a common occurrence in the North American markets, ...

Drawing from the same vein the as the BMW Films made in 2001 & 2002, the Bavarian brand has made some short videos that feature unique BMW owners doing what they do best with their German vehicles, and in the case of Tiffany Coates that means riding her BMW R80GS (named Thelma) just about everywhere humanly possible. An accomplished adventure rider and a celebrity in the genre, Coates has hit five continents on her BMWs. ...

I have three pictures MODIF suzuki shogun 125 sp which is roughly the image when the motor modification in the title contest. The best picture is the number three. because I see a modification of the bike is very unique and beautiful clean look to the eye and have a high selling value. because the price of the modification of the motor is more expensive than the original motor from the factory.

Pretty in Pink: Ferrari California gets cotton candied

It seems more and more people are finding new and interesting ways to bring out their personality in their vehicles, but while earlier we displayed a Lamborghini Gallardo whose owner thought Grigio Antares was the way to go, this car owner thought a little more on the bright side for her Ferrari California.

Okay, so we don’t really know if the car owner is a woman, but we could only hope that a woman is behind covering the beautiful sports car in the sissiest of colors around: bright cotton candy pink. If this owner was trying to make a statement then she definitely succeeded. We just don’t know if we like what she’s saying. There’s just something about covering up a 4.3L V8 engine producing 460hp with a whole lot of pink that just doesn’t feel right.

The bad part is, this vehicle isn’t the only one that has gotten hit with the pink stick. Paris Hilton’s car is well-known as the very pink Bentley Continental GT and we have even seen a pink Maserati GranCabrio. Of course, our favorite is still the pink Lamborghini Murcielago LP 670-4 SV because, well, that car could look good in just about anything.

Pretty in Pink: Ferrari California gets cotton candied originally appeared on topspeed.com on Wednesday, 29 December 2010 18:00 EST.
