Denny Hamlin Wins Martinsville Pole

Considering Denny Hamlin's record at Martinsville Speedway -- two straight victories and three wins in the last five races -- you wouldn't think he'd be too worried about whether he could hold onto the pole position for Sunday's Tums Fast Relief 500 after posting the fastest lap in his qualifying run Friday.

But winning the pole means getting the pick of the pit stalls, and at Martinsville the best one is first in line, right behind the exit line of the pits.

So as Hamlin waited nervously in the lounge of his team transporter while the rest of the field took their runs, he was. . . well, let's let him describe it in his usual frank manner: "I wasn't wishing bad luck," he said, "but I was just like, 'Slip, slip, slip, slip.'

"It came true for us. We've had to work extra hard today because we have worked just on qualifying."

The pole position at this tight, half-mile short track was "objective number one" for Hamlin and he and his team devoted all of practice to the qualifying setup.

2010 Estoril MotoGP FP3 Result - Lorenzo Leads Despite Late Crash

Jorge Lorenzo topped the timesheets during a wet third session of free practice at Estoril, despite crashing out in the final minutes of the session. The Fiat Yamaha rider had started slowly, but was soon matching the pace of his teammate and bitter rival Valentino Rossi. The two men swapped the top spot for the latter half of the session, before Lorenzo finally emerged on top.

Rossi ended the session in 2nd, nearly six tenths down, and nearly the same amount again ahead of Repsol Honda's Andrea Dovizioso. Casey Stoner, who had led early until he too crashed midway through the session, eventually reemerged from the pits to finish in 4th, ahead of Monster Tech 3 Yamaha's Colin Edwards and San Carlo Gresini's Marco Simoncelli.

The session was marred by several nasty highsides: Both Lorenzo and Stoner crashed at the same location, towards the end of the final Parabolica corner, while Stoner's Marlboro Ducati teammate Nicky Hayden suffered an eerily similar crash at Turn 2. Lorenzo and Stoner walked away unhurt, despite being flicked viciously off the bike, while Hayden limped away a little worse for wear.

More Power for VAG Cars Courtesy of ABT

Contrary to popular belief, ABT can do more than just make your VW, Audi, SEAT, or Skoda look better. They offer a range of power upgrades as well, with their latest being an ECU (Engine Control Unit) upgrade to boost power and performance on 1.2 and 1.4 liter TSi turbocharged lumps.

The award winning engine is a great platform to work from thanks to its class and industry leading qualities, which include good fuel economy, an excellent power to weight ratio, and low carbon emissions. The basic ABT philosophy is to enhance the power output so that it equals that of the next size engine in its class. For example, a 1.2 liter TSi develops 105 HP (77 kW). After fitting it with the ECU, output is upped to 140 HP (103 kW), which is equal to that of the factory 1.4 liter unit. This equates to a gain of around 15% which will surely be felt when driving in both day-to-day scenarios as well as when you?re in a hurry.

The same treatment is available for the 1.4 liter TSi ? power is increased from 180 HP (132 kW) to 210 HP (154 kW), which brings it on par with the Golf GTI. With less weight and more power, one can safely conclude that the likes of the Polo GTI or the Ibiza Cupra with the ABT enhancement will show up the benchmark Golf GTI in the performance stakes.

ABT claim the fuel economy remains unchanged even with more power ? no doubt a useful feature with apparently no downsides. There are a host of other tuners who offer similar products with much higher gains, but the ABT guys ?play it safe? to maintain fuel economy and reliability.

Torrential Rain Cancels MotoGP Qualifying at Estoril

The S.S. MotoGP set sail this weekend, as the Estoril GP looked more like a regatta than a GP race with all the water on the track. A monsoon storm has hit Portugal, causing two for the four practice sessions, including Saturday’s qualifying session, to be canceled because of the inclementweather. As such Sunday’s GP race grid, for all the racing classes, will be comprised from each rider’s best practice time, which for Jorge Lorenzo ...

UFC NEWS: Dan Hardy discusses the improvements he's made under "secret weapon" Victor Estima ahead of UFC 120

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

Dan "The Outlaw" Hardy is the first to acknowledge that his title fight with Georges St. Pierre exposed holes in his arsenal that he will quickly need to fill, should he want to make another run at the UFC title.

After the loss to St. Pierre, Hardy embarked on something of a seven-month ground-game sabbatical which saw him train extensively with Eddie Bravo in America.

Dan Hardy then returned to England to join his Rough House teammates in camp for the run up to his UFC 120 clash with Carlos "The Natural Born Killer" Condit. There they drafted in something of a secret weapon in the form of Gracie Barra Jiu-Jitsu coach, Victor Estima.

Ranked as the No. 3 Jiu-Jitsu competitor in the world, it is clear that Estima is on a different level; and by working so closely with Hardy in this camp, one would hope one or two of the ground-ace's tricks will have rubbed off on "The Outlaw."

"I would say [that my submissions will be the difference against Condit]," Hardy told MMATorch.

"There were a lot of harsh lessons learned in the last fight and there were a lot of things that I took back into training camp - a couple of weeks after the fight - and I started putting them into practice. I surrounded myself with the right guys, the right gym and did the right training. The last six or seven months have really paid off... I'm confident I can take him down and choke him out."

Hardy was in full confidence as his final big training session went like clockwork, and "The Outlaw" discussed the contribution that Victor Estima has made to this whole Rough House camp.

"What [Victor has given me] more than anything is an understanding... a better understanding," Hardy said. "It's very easy to go to a Jiu-Jitsu class, take the class like that - but the principals of what I'm doing and the concepts of control [are what I have learned].

"Now I've put them into place and I can see the opportunities and just kinda work with the fight, but at the same time I can make opportunities with this understanding.

"It's that really - the understanding that I've never really had before."

No Fedor fight in 2010? Overeem blames M-1; Instead Strikeforce offers up the other Overeem versus 'Big Foot' Silva

After dealing with the drama of his heavyweight division, you wonder if Scott Coker wants to put his head through a wall. The Strikeforce CEO wants to get his two hottest tickets, Fedor Emelianenko and Alistair Overeem, in the cage sooner than later. But between dealing with Fedor's management team M-1 and Overeem's jammed fight schedule, the fight looks like it may never happen. In the meantime, the best Strikeforce can come up with from its excellent heavyweight roster is to pit Overeem's older brother, Valentijn (28-25) against Antonio "Big Foot" Silva on Dec. 4. So why isn't Strikeforce ready to announce Fedor against the younger Overeem? The Dutch monster says it's all M-1's fault: "M-1 is doing a great job of keeping Fedor away of the true reality about what is going on. If Fedor reads the internet especially in the US then he will be shocked how many bad things have been said about him and especially M-1. They singlehandedly destroyed the legacy Fedor had with all their weird demands and strange comments during the year," said Overeem. "So I hope Fedor reads this and I will tell him exactly what happened. You challenged me too late and I was already committed for the K-1 and don’t blame me because I was calling you out for more than a year but your management company gave all sort of excuses not to fight me. They need months of negotiations with Strikeforce before they can make a fight happen and I’m not the person that’s going to wait for you because I want to fight as much as I can. I’m more than happy to fight you but now you have to wait for me this time, sorry about that."Overeem says M-1 looks foolish with actions that contradict its words."After (the Fedor-Brett Rogers) fight, I challenged him again and then all the discussion came; (Fedor's manager) Vadim (Vadim Finkelchstein) telling he wanted a special drug testing and calling me a steroid bully and I wasn’t a worthy opponent for Fedor and all those things," said Overeem. "... calling me a steroid bully but express the desire to fight Josh Barnett or how about this, saying I’m not a worthy opponent but choose Brett Rogers as first opponent. So M-1 have to do damage control again (laughs). Then they made the decision to fight Werdum over me so I could fight Brett Rogers instead."Overeem also says M-1 is lying about a possible Werdum-Fedor rematch. "Unfortunately, Werdum had a surgery on his elbow so he was out. M-1 was still saying that Fedor would rather fight Werdum because the fans want that fight the most, there we have another lie again. If you look at all the internet polls you could clearly see that the fans wanted Fedor versus me. Even on their own international website m-1global.com you could see that! They quickly put down the poll when I said it in the media," said Overeem."Then to make things more crazy; Fedor challenged me!! The first time in history, Fedor ever challenged somebody, but sorry I was already committed with the K-1 and I know that M-1 knew that I had said yes to K-1. They wanted to blame me for not fighting with Fedor on December. Then I came up with the perfect solution; Fedor fighting Antonio Silva and then me versus Werdum and the winner of both fights will fight each other…Unfortunately M-1 didn’t want to fight Antonio Silva. The soap continues."Yes it does and as fight fans we all lose out. Soares and Aldo are patiently waiting for Edgar fight

Maybe Jose Aldo has outgrown the WEC. He's certainly on the verge of outgrowing the featherweight division. Much like boxers routinely graduate from the 147-pound boxing welterweight division to junior middleweight, the 24-year-old Aldo looks to have the size and skill to compete with the 155ers. But it doesn't sound like Aldo and his manager Ed Soares have any interest in calling out WEC champion Ben Henderson. It's time for bigger and better things in the UFC. Maybe that means a trip to the Octagon against UFC 155 champ Frank Edgar."To be honest with you, if you were to say, What would be your dream fight for [Aldo]? I think a dream fight for him, which I think would just be a fight that everyone would love to see, would be Frankie Edgar vs. Jose Aldo," Soares said told Versus.com's Ariel Helwani. That's a nice step up considering Aldo's biggest WEC wins have come against UFC castoff Manny Gamburyan, Mike Brown and Urijah Faber, who is now fighting down at 135 pounds.  "That fight to me is the fight that everybody would want to see simply just because, not to disrespect anybody at the 155-pound division to think that Jose has the right to go up there without fighting in it, I just think that, as their styles, the way they match up, it would be one of the greatest fights of all-time, I think. It has the potential to be, just because of their styles," said Soares. Thus far Aldo has been the good soldier, not complaining about a lack of pay-per-view dollars and exposure. "He's a breath of fresh air, man. He's so refreshing. As a client, he's just very great," said Soares. When he asks Aldo what he wants next, his answer may surprise some people. "'It's not my job. My job is to go in there and perform inside the ring. That's your guys' job,'" said Soares relaying Aldo's thoughts.Aldo certainly deserves the attention from casual fight fans that is already given to guys like Brock Lesnar, Anderson Silva and Georges St. Pierre. But Aldo and Soares aren't complaining. They trust the plan put in place by Zuffa. "I hope soon," Soares said of Aldo's chances of becoming a consistent pay-per-view draw. "We have have faith in Dana (White), the UFC, Zuffa and the WEC, because we're not promoters. My job is to manage a fighter and the fighter's job is to go out there and fight, so I feel like I've done my job good, Jose has done his job good, and so far, the WEC and Zuffa have done their job well."Before you nix an Edgar-Aldo fight, think about what's on the horizon for Edgar. If he gets by Gray Maynard at UFC 125, who's next? Check out where the UFC fighter rank in the USA Today/Bloody Elbow lightweight Top 25. Who's the obvious choice? 1. Frank Edgar2. B.J. Penn4. BELLATOR NEWS: Ben Askren says it wouldn't be close if he and UFC Champ Georges St. Pierre wrestled; doesn't think much of Lyman Good's chances at Bellator 33

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

Ben Askren won the Bellator Season Two Welterweight tournament after competing in the sport of mixed martial arts for less than two years. But Askren's competitive nature and ability was honed during a lifelong career as an amateur wrestler.

His two NCAA D-1 titles and his appearance on the 2008 U.S. Olympic team are a testament to his abilities, and that drive and determination - as well as the confidence and bravado he developed in his wrestling career - have served him well on this new career path.

Heading into his Bellator Welterweight Championship fight with season one tournament winner Lyman Good, one thing Askren is not lacking is confidence.

"I'm not really worried about anything that Lyman [Good] brings to the table," Askren told MMATorch on Tuesday. "Maybe his stand up is better but it ain't going to be on the feet very long. I know my cardio is way better than his and he can't stand up for five rounds with me because I'll wear him out so bad he won't know what hit him."

It's not just five rounds with a dominant wrestler that Good has to concentrate on heading into this fight, it's also a matter of ring rust as well. Good has been out of action with injuries since winning the season one tournament, but Askren doesn't believe it would have helped him to be in action more recently anyway.

"I think whether he had ring rust or no ring rust I'd still whup his ass," Askren said. "I think five rounds favors me. 25 minutes is just a drop in the bucket compared to the time I've done in my life through wrestling. So there really is no worry about that.

"I keep a strong pace in the gym the whole time because I know if I keep a strong pace and my opponent's aren't keeping that strong of a pace there's no way they can stand up to the pressure I'm going to put on them. I think you saw that with [Dan] Hornbuckle, he definitely faded in the third round and the same with [Ryan] Thomas. Over five rounds I think they fade even more."

Next week's fight with Good is in Philadelphia, Penn., closer to Good's home in New York than Askren's mid-west home base. But Askren said he pushed for the fight to be this week at Kansas City, and it was Good who opted not to fight him there.

"I was really pitching for Kansas City because I went to school in Columbia, Missouri, which is not very far from Kansas City," Askren said. "So actually, they had agreed to let me fight this Thursday the 14th in Kansas City. So I sent the bout agreement out and I signed it. But I waited two weeks and wanted to announce on my Twitter 'I'll be fighting in Kansas City so all my friends can come see me.'

"But they wouldn't give me the ok to announce it, and somehow I found out that Lyman wouldn't sign the bout agreement to fight me in Kansas City. So I thought 'what a chickensh**.' So then the next place was Philadelphia, and I don't care, [near] his hometown, he can have a million fans there, it ain't going to help him. I'm not going to bicker about it, when I'm the champ I'll make the rules and I'll tell you guys where I want to fight and we'll go from there."

As for how the fight goes next week, Askren said there should be no surprise as to how it will play out.

"If Lyman can stop my takedown he's a damn good wrestler and I just don't see that happening," he said. "He might stop one, he might stop two, but he ain't going to stay on his feet very long.

"I would love to finish him fast and I really plan on it."

Askren is still young into the sport, but he's got lofty goals and also some choice thoughts about the man many have pegged as the "best wrestler in MMA": UFC Welterweight Champion Georges "Rush" St. Pierre.

"I want to become the best pound for pound fighter in the world [and] I think I can get that started [under the Bellator banner]," said Askren. "I strongly disagree [with the statement that Georges St. Pierre is the best wrestler in MMA]. The only person that he really out-wrestled who is good is Josh Koscheck. And Koscheck was way too worried about keeping his hands up by his ears and not getting hit in the head to defend his legs. So just because you can take someone down when their hands are at their head doesn't mean you're a good wrestler."

"If me and Georges were in a wrestling match, it wouldn't be close."

Asked who he thought was the best wrestler in MMA for MMA, Askren was unabashedly biased.

"I would think [I am the best wrestler in MMA for MMA]," he said. "I think Daniel Cormier is going to make a case for himself also... I think we're going to have a lot more accomplished wrestlers making the jump but obviously I'm biased, but I would say myself."

Askren's going to have a chance to put that moniker to the test next week, and his fight with Lyman Good will air on Fox Sports Net as part of a stacked Bellator 33 card from Philadelphia.

STRIKEFORCE NEWS: Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem TKOs Ben Edwards at K-1 World Grand Prix Final 16

Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem took another aside into kickboxing last night, as he took on Ben Edwards at the K-1 World Grand Prix Final 16 in Seoul, South Korea.

Overeem wasted little time in dispatching of his opponent, knocking Edwards down three times in the opening two minutes to earn the TKO victory. Overeem spoke about the victory after the fight (quotes from MMAFighting.com).

"I hope you enjoyed my fight," Overeem said. "I fight for the fans. You're awesome. I was very confident going into the fight. My training camp was really professional and really hard. I trained like an animal so I built a lot of confidence because of that. I felt like I could finish it in the first round and I did and so it was a good fight."

"He was a strong guy," Overeem said of Edwards. "I could feel his power in his punches. I knew he had the fastest tournament win so I knew I had to watch his power. Once I had a chance to finish the fight, I did."

Overeem is expected to return to MMA and Strikeforce early in 2011.

UFC 120: Bisping vs. Akiyama Pre-Fight Interviews

Sean Salmon Diego Sanchez Jorge Santiago Evangelista Santos Rey Phillip Santos

Jon Jones not pleased with Ryan Bader matchup

Jon Jones is ready for the big time or at least it sounds like he thinks so. Jones has been on fire in 2010 with dominating wins over Vladimir Matyushenko and Brandon Vera. The only loss of his career came on a disputed stoppage at "The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale" last December. Jones (11-1, 5-1 UFC) wants a crack at the top five or some big names. Instead, he'll get another prospect in TUF 8 champ Ryan Bader next February at UFC 127. "I'm actually really sick of fighting this type of style. Matt Hamill, Matyushenko, Jake O'Brien, they all have that similar kind of style," Jones told HDNet's Inside MMA. "Their main focus is that double leg dive and [they have] sub-par boxing."Doesn't sound like Jones has much respect for Bader (12-0, 5-0 UFC), a former Division 1 wrestler at Arizona State.  "I'm ready to fight some strikers, I'm ready to fight some south paws, I'm ready to really mix it up," said the 23-year-old Jones. "I'm trying to secure a respect level with my wrestling. I'm sure Ryan Bader, the advantage he'll have going in is to be the better wrestler and I'm going to try and prove the UFC wrong again."It almost sounds as if Jones is a little annoyed with UFC matchmaker Joe Silva. This fight is intriguing. Jones' wrestling has been awesome. He's thrown some dudes with impressive grappling backgrounds around like ragdolls. Let's see if he can do it to Bader too. If that's the case, then he's ready for that next step up. Jones is usually pretty mild-mannered, maybe this is all part of a new marketing plan installed by Team Jones.  Aaron Simpson Wes Sims Rob Sinclair Rory Singer Elvis Sinosic

We're still not sure if we like the friendlier, happier Brock Lesnar. All kidding aside, since his near-death experience with a stomach ailment, Lesnar seems to be enjoying life more. In this video, the UFC's heavyweight champ is horsing around doing some shooting. Make sure you check out "snack time" and Lesnar's fruit salad medley. With WEC 51 debut, Zhang hoping to open doors for Chinese fighters

With the help of global acceptance and fighters from every corner of the Earth, mixed martial arts has exploded over the last decade. Amazingly, none of it's been done with any help from the nation with the world's largest population. A big step in changing that happens Thursday night as a Chinese-born fighter will compete for the first time in North America. Zhang Tiequan is the trailblazer at WEC 51 in Colorado against Pablo Garza. China, a nation of 1.3 billion, with deep grappling and martial arts traditions, was anti-fighting for years. Things have changed. The sport is being embraced. The UFC has opened some doors on the web and television. Now it wants to mine the massive population for its next wave of fighters. Zuffa, the parent company of both the UFC and WEC, sent matchmaker Sean Shelby to China on a three-week fact-finding mission to see if there were fighters ready for the jump to the biggest promotions in the world. "The thing that amazed me was the spirit of the Chinese people and the Chinese athlete," Shelby [told Associated Press]. "There's absolutely no quit in them, and that's something you just can't teach an athlete. You either have it or you don't. It's the intangible."Shelby found plenty of fighters who were well-versed in wrestling and had stand-up skills similar to kickboxers. Now the next step is to get jiu-jitsu widely accepted across the country. [Shelby said:] "When they have the jiu-jitsu to go with the sanda, there's no telling how far they can go."But he also believes that the wrestling background is more than enough to allow to the 25-year-old Tiequan (16-0) to be competitive. "If you're going to be a successful MMA fighter, you have to be a good Greco-Roman wrestler," Shelby said. "They decide where the fight goes. ... If you have that kind of resume, you're set up to do very well, no matter where you come from. Chinese or not, he's got potential."WEC president Reed Harris sees massive potential in China. "As a country, they want their athletes to come to America, and vice versa," WEC general manager Reed Harris said. "Once this sport really grows and develops, I believe they'll be able to compete as well as any country. In the next 10 or 20 years, this is certainly going to become a big deal."Harris is hopeful Tiequan can compete at this level. "I'm a realist, and coming into the WEC or the UFC is certainly a huge step in a guy's career," Harris said. "We'll see how he does. Sean's report from China is he's very well-rounded, a really good striker, good on the ground. He's got the record, but we have to see what his level of competition was. I'm excited to see what happens."Fight fans can be very nationalistic and so is the media in many nations. The first Chinese MMA fighter who becomes a star in the U.S. could jump-start something huge in China. Look to Yao Ming and the NBA as a great example. It's the same approach the UFC took in heavily promoting British fighters to ensure media coverage and tug at the emotions of British fight fans.Update: The WEC didn't set up Tiequan with a tomato can to ensure an easy win. The promotion called Garza, as a late replacement. MMA Junkie points out that Garza (9-0) was on the first episode of Season 12 of "The Ultimate Fighter" and lost to show favorite Michael Johnson. He's unbeaten and who knows, if he hadn't drawn Johnson in the first round, we may still be watching him compete on TUF 12.  Frankie Edgar Ken Shamrock Dan Severn Tank Abbott Hiroyuki Abe

Meet Marlon Sandro, the man who could take out Jose Aldo

Jose Aldo's title defense on Thursday night made the featherweight fighter look near invincible. He tore through Manny Gamburyan in barely two rounds. He's already taken out Mike Brown and Urijah Faber, two of the best featherweights in the world, and has a place in the conversation about who the world's best fighter is. Is there anyone who can unseat him? Yes. Meet Marlon Sandro, a Sengoku fighter. Check out what he did to Masanori Kanehara at the Sengoku Raiden Championship 13 in June. (The action starts around 1:30, and doesn't last for long.) What's the catch? (You knew there was going to be a catch.) Sandro is Aldo's teammate. As is the case with many MMA fighters who train together, Aldo and Sandro don't want to fight each other. It doesn't even make sense for the WEC to pursue signing Sandro unless he and Aldo would agree to fight.Aldo is not concerned about a lack of contenders."The same way that Manny earned his title shot, there's a lot of guys that are going to come up and earn their title shots," Aldo told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) through his interpreter. He said he has no problem fighting whoever the WEC puts in front of him. In the meantime, enjoy Sandro and Aldo ripping through lesser fighters. Compare the symmetry between Sandro's knockout of Kanehara and Aldo's KO of Gamburyan, and think about what might be. David Bielkheden Michael Bisping  Dan Bobish Vagam Bodjukyan Kotetsu Boku

Bonuses, shoves and more: WEC 51 press conference notes

After Jose Aldo destroyed Manny Gamburyan in Broomfield, Colo., the WEC faced the media. Notes from the WEC 51 press conference: -- Bonuses of $10,000 were handed out to George Roop for Knockout of the Night, Miguel Torres for Submission of the Night and Fight of the Night bonuses were given to Jamie Varner and Donald Cerrone.-- Cerrone explained his behavior at the end of his bout with Varner. "At the end of the fight, he tried to hug me, and I said get away from me. I still don't like the guy," Cerrone said. -- Miguel Torres said that he is not worried about a title shot for now, just focused on training and improving. The next bantamweight title fight will be December 16, with Scott Jorgensen fighting Dominick Cruz in Glendale, Ariz. -- Two judges gave the first round of the title fight to Gamburyan, and Aldo didn't disagree with that assessment. Aldo said that he likes to study his opponent in the first round, and then get after it in the second. -- Torres attributed his win to training at Tri-Star in Montreal with Firas Zahabi, the coach for Georges St. Pierre and Kenny Florian. He said that working with full-time professionals made the difference. -- Mark Hominick said that he fought Leonard Garcia with a broken hand. He had bent his thumb backwards on the last day of training camp and just had it well-taped for the bout. He also wants rematch with Josh Grispi, calling his loss to him "a bitter pill to swallow."Vitor Belfort Randy Couture Chuck Liddell Quinton Jackson Forrest Griffin

WEC 51 opener: Hominick makes Garcia look silly with his jab

Leonard Garcia has been in some wars. Maybe too many at this point. He looked slow and at times defenseless to avoid Mark Hominick's jab. The Canadian landed just about whenever he wanted and by the end of the fight, Garcia's face was blown up. It was an easy call for the judges, who somehow scored it a split decision, 29-28, 28-29 and 29-28, for Hominick in the opening bout on the televised portion of WEC 51 in Broomfield, Colo.  "We know Leonard's got a big right. We wanted to make him miss and
make him pay for missing," said Hominick. "You know he's very
durable, very tough, so he's very hard to finish. So we just wanted
to keep attacking, stay one up on him." Garcia (14-6-1, 4-3-1 WEC) has raw power but his form just wasn't there to compete with a compact striker like Hominick. When Garcia swung wildly with overhand left and rights, Hominick side-stepped him to counter with jabs and double-jabs. When Garcia was stationary, Hominick made great use of the jab and landed a ton of right hand leads. It's clear the wear and tear of Garcia's all out style over the years has slowed him down. It's a solid win for Hominick (19-8-1, 3-2 WEC, 2-0 UFC) who is slowly moving into the conversation for a shot at the top at 145 pounds in the WEC. At 28 years old, Hominick's got a ton of experience and physical talent, now he finally feels like he's putting it all together.  "The mental approach is now I'm not fearing my opponent," said Hominick. "I'm not fearing what they're bringing to the table. I know what I can do and I'm just to go out there and do it." The judge who gave the fight to Garcia was Joe Garcia (no relation). Wait until the postfight striking stats come out, Garcia may be second-guessing his original decision.  Randy Couture Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira Brock Lesnar Frank Mir Brock Lesnar

You have Jose Aldo No. 1 pound-for-pound? According to Dana White, you're a moron

Remember this pound-for-pound talk is all about enhancing our interest in fighting. The debate should be light-hearted unless you want to verbally scrap with Dana White over the issue. Then you better get ready to rumble. Jose Aldo is the hot topic amongst MMA bloggers, fans and media members. For some, he's jumped guys like Anderson Silva and Georges St. Pierre. The UFC president suggests that you're a schmuck if you're giving Aldo that much credit. "Are you [expletive] nuts? POTENTIAL FUTURE pound for pound king," White texted Comcast SportsNet's Carmichael Dave. "Anderson Silva hasn't lost since 2006! He's never lost in the UFC!"White's clearly not biased in this case. Both Aldo and Silva fight under the Zuffa banner and as he points out, away from the Octagon, he's not really a big fan of the UFC middleweight champ."Anderson Silva is a pain in my ass. This isn't Chuck Liddell, we aren't best friends. But you can't deny what the man has done," White told Dave over the phone. "He (Silva) HASNT LOST in the UFC! The guy has not only cleared out his division, he's gone up to 205 (from 185) and beaten a guy like Forrest Griffin (former 205 champ), who beat Rampage Jackson AND (current champ) Shogun Rua."When it was pointed out to White that Silva nearly lost his last fight to a guy with 11 losses, he wasn't buying it. "Yeah. He (expletive) WON! AND he's 35 years old. You media geeks need to learn the fight biz," White texted.Later he told Dave, "And Frankie Edgar is right there too. I might actually put him at No. 2. This guy is for real. He beat BJ Penn twice, and kicked his ass in their last fight. I love and respect Manny Gamburyan, but he's no BJ Penn. And the only thing keeping GSP (170 pound champ Georges St. Pierre) out of the top 3 is (a KO loss) to Matt Serra."There you have it. So move Aldo up the pound-for-pound list at your own risk. Don Corleone and trash talk: Highlights from UFC 119 press conference

INDIANAPOLIS -- At the UFC 119 press conference, hometown boy Chris Lytle was clearly the crowd favorite, drawing big cheers from the crowd. The UFC 119 main players were all there.  -- Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic came in as a late replacement for Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. He fought just a few months ago at UFC 114, but said that deciding to fight was a no-brainer."Don Corleone sent me an offer I couldn't refuse," Cro Cop said. White and Mir both joked about Cro Cop's possible eye injury -- which was cleared by doctors -- and how they were both a little nervous about it."I actually joked with Matt Mitrione. 'Hey man. You've had two fights. Let's go out there and have a war,'" Mir said."Did we have another plan? No," White said. "We were praying that Mirko was going to be fine." -- Cro Cop went on to discuss trash talk's role in MMA. Frank Mir had plenty to say about Filipovic before the fights, but Cro Cop isn't crazy about trash talk."I think I should be respectful of fighters. This sport is brutal enough itself. I don't think you should say stupid statements or should act like savages. At the end of the day, [Frank Mir] is my brother in arms," Filipovic said. "There's no anger. I will do my best to beat him. I expect him to do the same. I see no place for insulting each other. I have never done it."-- Filipovic pointed out that this Saturday's bout will be his 70th bout. He's had 37 in MMA, 32 in K-1.-- Though wearing sunglasses -- and the best fanny pack I've ever seen -- Cro Cop said that his eye is fine.-- A reporter asked Dana White if the business was slowing down. In a word, no. "The business hasn't slowed down whatsoever. TUF still pulled great ratings. We're one of the longest-running reality shows in history. We're in the top 10. People are enjoying this season, and as far as the mainstream, we continue to grow. If you look at the economic disaster, and what's going on right now, and you look at other sports and entertainment, the UFC machine continues to roll, and we're putting on event after event. This sport continues to grow. We continue to grow. You are very misinformed, my friend," White said.-- Though not on the dais, Mitrione was at the press conference and had a few questions for his friend and mentor, Chris Lytle."If there's a fire while you're here, will you be called to fight it?" Mitrione asked Lytle, a firefighter in Indianapolis." "I hope not! I think the whole city might burn down, because all my fire department people should be watching my fight." Lytle responded. "Will you bring Serra?" Mitrione said. When Lytle said yes, White broke in. "You'd better bring somebody taller than Serra!"-- Mir said that any discussion of going to light heavyweight was premature. "If I lose Saturday, it might be easier to go to 205, because I'll be depressed and won't eat," Mir said with a laugh. "No, I spoke about it in passing, and certain people in my life responded by saying, 'There's no way in hell that can ever happen.'"-- The UFC ended the press conference by taking questions from fans. A fan asked White to come and sit with him at the top of Conseco Fieldhouse. White said, "You are a gentleman, sir. I'd love to sit with you."
