9ff GTurbo 1200

A few weeks ago, German tuner 9ff unveiled the GTurbo tuning package, but while the most powerful version developed 1,000 HP, 9ff pulled the GTurbo 1200 straight out of a hat during the Essen Motorshow. For those not packing much common sense, that’s a model developing a spectacular 1,200 HP.

The GTurbo 1200 is based on a Porsche GT2 model, but is modified to be made lighter. There are a series of carbon fiber elements, along side and rear windows that have been replaced by Macrolon items. There is also a new set of 19" wheels.

After 9ff added titanium connecting rods, 9ff cylinder head with bigger valves and ports, 9ff camshafts, and 130mm intercoolers, the twin-turbo engine now develops an impressive 1200 HP and 1100 NM of torque. The car can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds and will hit an impressive 257 mph. The whole package is finished by a new titanium exhaust system that has adjustable valves for a quiet, sportier sound. The car is currently available for sale at a price of 219,000 euro (around $285,000).

Specifications after the jump.

Dani Pedrosa advised to rest after further hospital tests

Repsol Honda Team rider Dani Pedrosa has been advised to rest for four more weeks to fully recover from the effects of his recent collarbone injury and subsequent surgery.

Dani Pedrosa advised to rest after further hospital tests
The Spaniard visited Doctor Xavier Mir at the Dexeus Univertity Institute Hospital in Barcelona on Thursday to undergo further medical tests to determine the reasons for the numbness and lack of strength in his shoulder and left arm, which had affected Pedrosa?s performance in the final races of the 2011 season.
After two days of tests, consisting of a CAT scan, an MRI scan, electromyography and Eco-Doppler tests, the need for further surgery was ruled out. Following his four-week rest period Pedrosa, who secured second place in the MotoGP World Championship at the final race of the year in Valencia last Sunday, will start rehabilitation and return to physical training in order to regain full fitness for the first MotoGP tests of the 2011 season, which take place in M alaysia at the beginning of February.

Doctor Xavier Mir

?Due to the trauma caused by the crash in Japan where Dani broke his left collarbone and needed surgery to fix the bone with a titanium plate, the nerve located over the collarbone, between the neck and the shoulder, received a severe contusion and the heavy inflammation of this area causes fatigue and lack of strength all through the arm. He will need a period of four weeks of complete rest with physiotherapy and anti-inflammatory treatment.?

Dani Pedrosa

?I?ve been suffering a lot since Japan and I knew something was wrong with my arm because after the surgery I didn?t get better. This lack of strength was very strange and annoying! I was worried because after Estoril we checked the collarbone again and it looked like there was nothing wrong with the plate, but we had no more time between races to check more deeply the reasons f or my lack of strength. I have had other injuries and surgery in the past and I know that you need some time to recover and get fit again, but this time it was taking too long. Now everything is clear and it?s good to know that the collarbone is OK and I don?t need any more surgery that would take a long time to heal. I hope that within these four weeks the inflammation passes gradually and that I will be able to start rehabilitation and training in the middle of December. We had a good test in Valencia after the final race and I want to start the winter tests in February in Malaysia in a good shape in order to be ready for next year?s championship.?

Ducati and AMG announce new alliance

The two will collaborate closely in the future to develop common marketing activities, with the German high performance car manufacturer being a sponsor for the Italian factory?s MotoGP team.

Ducati and AMG announce new alliance
The initial aim of the cooperation between the performance brand from Affalterbach in Germany and the Italian manufacturer of high performance motorcycles is to develop common marketing activities. The cooperation agreement was signed on Wednesday, during a press conference at the Los Angeles Auto Show, by Gabriele del Torchio, President and CEO of Ducati Motor Holding S.p.A and Ola Kllenius, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.
"We are especially proud to have AMG as one of our sponsors for the Ducati MotoGP Team. I am also very pleased that our joint marketing activities are well under way. In AMG we have found a partner who perfectly reflects our brand values of high performance, motorsport, excitement and our sense of unmistakable style and design," said Del Torchio.
"I am very pleased that we are able to announce our strategic cooperation with Ducati,? said Kllenius. ?AMG and Ducati ideally complement each other, as both companies share the same values: racing as the driving passion, and high performance plus exclusivity as the central brand messages of both AMG and Ducati. This long-term cooperation will help us to jointly access new customer groups.?
The first visible results of the cooperation between Ducati and AMG will be joint marketing and sponsoring activities. AMG will support the Ducati MotoGP Team as the Official Car Partner from 2011. During selected AMG events, participants will be able to test ride Ducati motorcycles, and Ducati customers will similarly have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the latest AMG high performance cars at events. The partners are also currently examining the further activities and strategic steps they might undertake together in the near future.

Three Crew Chiefs Say What Their Drivers Must Do to Win Sprint Cup

Denny Hamlin is said to be over his minor meltdown after the Phoenix race, and his crew chief, Mike Ford, is feeling good because they've had the best car and done the most winning down the stretch in the Chase for the Sprint Cup.

Kevin Harvick is bringing a new car to the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway this weekend and as the third-place driver, will race flat out, crew chief Gil Martin said. But before Harvick goes for broke, the team is hanging out the "Gone Fishing" sign and headed to the Keys.

And Jimmie Johnson? Well, he's just a better driver than the other two, or so says crew chief Chad Knaus.

It may be that some of the things said Tuesday in a triple-header media conference featuring the three contending crew chiefs will - for motivational purposes - end up taped to one or another team's tool box in the garage at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Or it may be that it's just a lot of hot air that disappears into the air like so much exhaust smoke out of their engines.

Audi RB-1200 S Performance Bike Concept

If BMW does it, why wouldn’t Audi? We are talking about the production of sport bikes, and this new design from the mind of Gavin Harvey combines different sports car elements to create a pretty ingenious piece of work. It’s called the Audi RB-1200 S and it definitely gets our seal of approval.

The Audi RB-1200 S has R8 lights and new front brakes colored in the now famous Audi red. Splashed across the front is Audi’s well-known four circles engraved into the metal. The bike’s seat will be made from leather and will also have carbon fiber detail. Right under the seat, along with the rear lights, is where the designer envisioned the location of a twin exhaust.

Harvey’s design may be a work of art, but we’ve seen renderings of Audi bikes before and nothing much has come of them. Maybe we’ll get lucky with the Audi RB 1200 S. So, what do you think? Should Audi start developing sports bikes?

Ducati 350 Caf Racer ? Proof That Less is More

Christian Klein’s Ducati 350 Caf Racer might be a work of art, and it’s certainly an example that you don’t have to make an elaborate motorcycle to make something visually stunning. Using a Ducati 350 Scrambler motor, Klein has ported and polished the single-cylinder lump, and then fabricated a custom steel frame to make his creation. Klein was meticulous in his construction, taking several years to perfect his machine. The attention to detail has paid ...

In an interview with Alan Cathcart, Erik Buell talks to the famed motorcycle journalist about his departure from Harley-Davidson, and what the future holds for Erik Buell and Erik Buell Racing. Perhaps one of the most interesting things to come out of the pair’s conversation (read a translated version at Motonline) is the fact that in late-2006/early-2007 Harley-Davidson killed off a project to build a 450cc Buell off-road machine. Astrum Meera Concept

Ever wonder what the car of the future is going to look like without the convenience of seeing concept cars from actual automakers? For John Stephen Baltazar, the future may very well lie with the Astrum Meera Concept, a car that?s revolutionary on both design and performance.

In terms of style, Baltazar designed the Meera Concept with swooping lines and aggressive styling, which is typical of the way futuristic vehicles are envisioned. More than just his flare for the panache, Baltazar designed it while taking into consideration safety, sustainability, and practical purpose.

In terms of performance, Baltazar put in an exhaust that comes with built-in sensors that tracks the level of CO2 emissions and promptly alerts the driver in the event that the emission level rises higher than its normal range. Apart from the state-of-the art exhaust, the Meera also comes with wheel rims that use magnetic levitation, making the whole body lighter and the corresponding performance lighter. The side mirrors also work in such a way that they automatically tuck themselves in when the car is stopped and reappear when the car is started.

All told, Baltazar’s work is finely crafted, but still touches on the ambitious side. We don?t know if there will come a point in the future where a car like this can be mass produced, but with the speed of technology these days, we wouldn?t be surprised if the Meera Concept ? or a car similar to this - is out and about on the streets of the world in no time.

Jimmie Johnson Wins Fifth Straight NASCAR Title, Carl Edwards Wins Race

The Jimmie Johnson dynasty in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series stretched to half a decade at Homestead-Miami Speedway Sunday as the most dominant driver the sport has ever seen won his fifth straight championship with a second-place finish in the Ford 400 season finale.

As Carl Edwards motored to his second straight victory in as many weeks, leading 190 laps, Johnson fought back from early pit problems, settled into his regular routine and came on at the end to seal the title.

For Edwards, the two consecutive victories came after a 70-race winless streak.

"This is unreal," Edwards said in victory lane. "It's a great way to finish the season. I think the way we're going, if we can start like that, our Aflac team will have a shot at them next year.

"To finish like this is unreal. It's just these guys not giving up. We don't give up. We've had just an unbelievable run toward the end of this season. It's just a great way to end the season."

The championship battle was a nail-biting contest whose complexion changed time and time again throughout the 267-lap event.

IDC Models builds real life model of Red Bull X1 Prototype

The Red Bull X1 Prototype - the handiwork of Red Bull Racing’s Chief Technical Officer, Adrian Newey - is a car that only resides in the virtual world that is Gran Turismo 5. Dream as we all may to see the car destroy any four-wheeled vehicle in the real world, the likelihood of that ever happening is as slim as plucking a needle out of a million haystacks. Not that the X1 Prototype isn?t capable of doing so ? it can obliterate anything that challenges it! ? but regulations on these types of racers has made the superdupercar unbuildable.

On the flip side, it doesn?t mean that the X1 Prototype can?t be built, albeit it without a powertrain. In fact, the folks from Industrial Design Consultancy have already built a real-scale model of the X1 Prototype sans the powertrain. Measuring 4.75m long and 2.2m wide, the model was secretly built by IDC at its modeling center in the UK in collaboration with Red Bull.

Jorge Lorenzo?s perspective on 2010

The MotoGP World Champion talks about his first premier class title in a feature interview, discussing the moments of his campaign which stood out for him and also looking ahead to defending his crown in 2011?

Jorge Lorenzo?s perspective on 2010
Jorge Lorenzo's 2010 review
MotoGP World Champion at the relatively tender age of 23, Jorge Lorenzo has already accomplished one of his lifelong ambitions. The Spanish rider broke a number of records on his way to the 2010 title, amassing nine victories and a total of 16 podiums, and in the attached video feature interview he talks about his achievement in depth.
The first of Lorenzo?s wins came in Round 2 at Jerez, his first premier class victory on home soil and one which holds special significance for him. ?We were highly motivated when we got to Jerez but the race didn?t start in the best manner, as I dropped to fourth or fifth. But then suddenly my mind just changed and I started to go much quicker, recovering seconds on the leaders. My adrenaline was so high and I wanted the win whatever happened. I took risks and fortunately it happened,? said Lorenzo.
Other notable moments looked back on during the course of the year included three successive wins at Silverstone, Assen and Catalunya, when Lorenzo really asserted his hold on the leader?s spot. ?After (second place at) Mugello I won three in a row and took a big points advantage. At this moment we seemed unbeatable, but it was only a question of time before our rivals would catch us. It wasn?t easy to keep calm and be patient and avoid making mistakes. At some points the other bikes, especially Honda, were very strong and in these races the only thing I could do was finish on the podium, even fourth, and that?s what I did.?
Crossing the finish line in third place in Round 15 at Sepang was the moment Lorenzo?s dream was realised, and he explained: ?I didn?t think I?d be nervous when I got to Sepang, but when the time came I was more nervous than ever. It was difficult to handle the situation. At the moment I became Champion I didn?t feel anything because I?d imagined it so many times, but after a matter of hours I started to enjoy my moment and become fully conscious that I was World Champion.?
In 2011 Lorenzo will attempt to defend his title, a feat he managed successfully to achieve in the 250cc class, and looking ahead he concluded: ?In terms of concentration and focus it will be difficult, but I think my mind will be at the same level, or this is what I?ll try to do. To get the same amount of points (383 ? a new record in MotoGP), the same number of victories, it?s going to be extremely hard of course, but you never know. It could happen like this again, or it could be a disaster of a season. This is the great thing about sport: you never know what will happen!?

AC Schnitzer Chronograph 3

AC Schintzer is a name that is usually associated with tuned up BMWs, but they seem to be joining the accessory circus with their third installment of the Chronograph, a watch signed by the famous tuner. The new Chronograph 3 will be built as a limited edition and is ideal as an exclusive gift.

This timepiece is strapped around the user’s wrist by an ultrasoft black leather strap with white quilting seams. The body of the watch is made of brushed aluminum with a screwed on base that makes it water resistant up to 100 meters. The outer ring of the watch has a tachometer that includes four "extra instruments" for counting seconds, minutes, and hours.

The feature of the timepiece that is the most attractive is the indices made of superluminova. With this material, the watch’s appliques and roman numerals can be seen no matter what time it is.

Three for the Show as NASCAR Hits Homestead for Grand Finale

MIAMI -- Dressed in a freshly pressed, button-down shirt, cleanly shaven and appearing slightly preoccupied, Denny Hamlin was the first to arrive for NASCAR's version of a title fight weigh-in -- a formal press conference with the Sprint Cup Series championship contenders in downtown Coral Gables.

Looking a lot younger than the 30 years he turned Thursday, Hamlin politely smiled but more often stared up at the ceiling as his two bearded, 30-something challengers -- four-time defending Cup champ Jimmie Johnson and veteran Kevin Harvick -- arrived and took their seats on either side of him, then seized every opportunity to take good-natured barbs at the birthday boy and each other.

Hamlin, who holds a 15-point edge over Johnson and a 46-point cushion over Harvick entering Sunday's season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, called the event "awkward'' because "there's all this s***-talking going on and we're like two feet away (from each other).''

"He definitely seems like the most nervous,'' Harvick said smiling and looking over at Hamlin.

"That's because I'm between you,'' Hamlin replied.

Actually, it's his position in front of them that has made this the most dramatic final race in the Chase for the Sprint Cup since NASCAR first instituted its 10-race playoff format seven years ago.

It is the closest-ever margin between first and second place entering the final race. And Harvick, who has the best average finishing position (8.4) among the three at the 1.5-mile Homestead oval, is still a factor compared to past years when a third-place driver was merely a mathematical technicality.

Tipping contest winners: Donington 2009

It was a freakish race - one which I am still trying to get my head around, let alone write up!
Because of the unusual podium, points were scarce this week with many people striking out. Only one person scored podium points: @leighberwick with his 3rd place for de Puniet. How you picked him out Leigh, [...]

Ride Review: 2012 Yamaha Super Tnr

Asphalt & Rubber was recently one of a few blogs, along with the usual suspects from the American media, to be invited out to Arizona for Yamaha's press launch of the Super Tnr adventure-tourer motorcycle (because we know Americans have no idea what to do with an accented "e?, think "tay-nay-ray" for pronunciation?or just cheat like us and say ?ten-air-ray?). Riding through the deserts and forests of Arizona, we logged over 300 miles on the Super Tnr, as we put the adventure bike through its paces.

Kasey Kahne Wins Pole for NASCAR Finale, Jimmie Johnson Leads Contenders

HOMESTEAD, Fla. -- Kasey Kahne won the pole position for Sunday's Ford 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup series season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, while four-time defending Cup champ Jimmie Johnson's sixth-place effort was best of the three drivers vying for the season championship.

Kahne's No. 83 Red Bull Toyota turned a lap of 176.904 mph around the 1.5-mile oval, bettering Carl Edwards' Ford and Jamie McMurray's Chevrolet. (Kahne is shown at right checking times during qualifying).

But as significant as who will be starting up front is who won't be. Championship points leader Denny Hamlin, who holds a tenuous 15-point edge over Johnson, will start 37th in the 43-car field. Kevin Harvick, who trails Hamlin by 46 points, will roll off 28th.

"It was tough ... but our car is gonna be fine tomorrow,'' Hamlin said. "We know that. This is a track you can pass (at). We're looking forward to that part of it. Friday has just never been our strong suit and so we gotta battle back again."

Harvick, who has started better then 20th only one time since August, didn't appear overly concerned with his starting position. He finished third at Martinsville, Va., last month after starting 36th and was runner-up at Las Vegas despite starting 34th.

"I thought we might have been a little better, but not much,'' said Harvick, who drives the No.. 29 Shell-Pennzoil Chevy. "Everybody on the car did a really good job. ... We've been talking about where we want to pit here, the same thing we do every week.

"Our car was very comfortable in race trim and we are ready to go.''

Buell Swingarm Exhaust: Still Owned by Harley-Davidson

Math can be tough sometimes, especially when it comes to counting, so we can understand the confusion surrounding the news that Erik Buell has recently been awarded a patent for a design that incorporates a motorcycle exhaust system inside the swingarm of the bike (now that’s some engineering). However we have the unpleasant responsibility of saying that this patent is not in fact owned by Erik Buell and Erik Buell Racing, as the filing date ...

In another lean week top scorers, two names shot ahead from the pack to challenge the leaders - @tailzer and @harleymac1. Pulling off an impressive Brit-centric Minella to gain 6 points, @tailzer took second place in the overall standings. Well done sir! @harleymac1 also made impressive gains with his 6 point Minella.

This time, it was the turn of Max Biaggi to talk, and he fielded questions from the press on a range of subjects, from the role of electronics in World Superbikes, on the development of the Aprilia RSV4, on his thoughts on retiring, and on the prospect of a return to MotoGP. Here's what Biaggi had to say:

This will be our final teleconference of the year with riders from the Superbike World Championship.
